Who screens customer service/telemarketers?

by Beth VanHoose

Don’t you think that one of the qualifications for a telemarketer/customer service phone rep should be that they can speak? Not speak English, just speak in general. I have gotten so many of these calls lately where you can’t understand the person calling.

Here’s an example…I received this message last week from a customer service phone rep.

Dis message is for Berf V (last name, which was the only word this person pronounced correctly, amazingly).  Berf, dis is Wergle wif Moosey Butt. Pliz call meh at 1234567890. (If I could type all 10 digits on top of one another, I would. This person said the number so fast, there was no way I could tell what it was)

Really? They seriously expect me  to call back after that message? I had to listen to it several times before I even got that much information out of it. The dude sounded like a) he had a mouth full of marbles, or else he was eating lunch, and b) he must have been trying to win some company contest on who could leave the most information in the shortest amount of time.

Who screens these people? I’ve heard ESL people speak clearer than some of these phone reps.

Hisssss!

by Beth VanHoose

Buddy does not like Whitley. At all. Buddy is one of my cats, Whitley is my dog. Whitley basically ignores Buddy, except when Buddy decides he wants Whitley to pay attention to him. Then Buddy hisses. Sounds like air escaping a tire. All Whit wants to do is play. We’ve had Whit two years now so you think Buddy would be used to him by now, but he’s not. He was the same way when we got Max though, and Max is a cat.

Silly Buddy.

Diversions from writing

by Beth VanHoose

Besides writing, I do crafts. I crochet, make jewelry, and do plastic canvas crafts. I work on crafts between writing projects, or when I have slight (or not-so-slight) writer’s block, or when I’m waiting for  my interminably slow computer to decide to do something.  I’m getting  ready for a craft show next weekend, so I’m  working a little more on crafts and a little less on writing these days. Tomorrow I need to work on both equally though. I have several crafts to finish, but also a bunch of blog articles I need to write. Plus, I’m helping a local business decorate for the holidays. Good thing I don’t have to work tomorrow.

So, I guess I should head to bed now so that I can rest and prepare for tomorrow.

This is ridiculous

by Beth VanHoose

I am so tired of a 250 word blog post taking me two hours to post because of my damn computer. I need a new computer but can’t afford to buy one right now. Sigh.

Things are looking up

by Beth VanHoose

Things are looking up…writing-wise anyway. I got accepted at Interact Media and have written my first article there. I picked another gig last week. I checked in at Textbroker this morning and was able to grab an assignment. I’ve got a couple of possibilities with private clients. Not a lot, but things are slowly picking up. Can’t wait to see what the rest of the week brings.

Interact Media

by Beth VanHoose

I just got the email that I was accepted to Interact Media, with a 4-star (out of 5) rating. I guess having the computer freeze, lose my sample article, and make me have to rewrite my article was worth it.
