Apologies to any regular readers I may have. It’s been a while since I’ve written, longer than it should have been. When I last wrote, I was serving jury duty, and had also just started a new job.

Jury duty went ok, as I posted I got selected for a jury. It was the first time I’d been selected in the 30 + years I’d been eligible to serve. The trial was an indecent exposure case. It was interesting to go through the procedure. We found the defendant guilty on three of the four charges. The judge who presided over the trial was great.  A few days after the trial ended, I (and I’m sure my fellow jurors as well) even got a thank you letter from the judge. I was impressed with that.

A week before I had jury duty, I started a new job with the local community college library. It’s part-time, 20 hours a week, and I love it.

For those of you who don’t know, my minor in college some 25 years ago was Library Science. I wanted to pursue it further, but never did. I tried getting a job in a library right out of school, with no luck. I wound up taking a clerical job with a television station, and worked in television at various stations for 24 years, starting in the clerical position and ending up as a department manager. I left television when we moved to our current location. There are no television stations here (except for local/public access stations), which was just fine with me, as I really didn’t want to continue working in that industry. After applying for literally hundreds of jobs over the last two years, I finally landed my dream job of working in a library.

I still have a lot to learn, as it’s been 25 years since I took any courses in library science, or did my internship at the public library, and a lot have things have changed since then. But, I’m loving it, and I think the job fits me like a glove.

So, in honor of my new job, my quote today is not a writing quote, but a library quote:

Libraries are reservoirs of strength, grace and wit, reminders of order, calm and continuity, lakes of mental energy, neither warm nor cold, light nor dark…. In any library in the world, I am at home, unselfconscious, still and absorbed. ~Germaine Greer
